Art and Music in Iceland

Continuing attention to Icelandic art and music has found some great artists, some of which will get a mention here below. Also some Icelandic actors, directors and producers. For writers, see the literature category. To see more information on each artist, click the artists name and a new window will open with some more information.

In films, the biggest mentions go to Friðrik Þór Friðriksson director, producer and screenwriter (films include Angels of the Universe and Children of Nature), Sigurjon Sighvatsson producer (films include Wild at heart, Arlington Rd. and Madonna´s truth or dare/in bed with madonna), Ingvar Sigurðsson actor (K19 the widowmaker, Angels of the Universe), Hilmir Snær Guðnason actor (Angels of the Universe), Baltasar Kormakur actor and director (101 Reykjavik), Margrét Vilhjálmsdóttir actress (hvaða myndir?), Róbert I. Douglas filmmaker (A man like me, the Icelandic Dream), Sigurjón Kjartansson comedian, radio presenter, actor, songwriter, musician (Films include the Icelandic Dream, Remote Control - bands include Ham and Olympia).

Well known Icelandic films include Oscar nominated Children of Nature, Angels of the Universe, 101Reykjavik, Regina, Magnus, Cold Fever and more.

Due to the unique Icelandic landscape, a lot of attention has been given to Iceland by other filmmakers as well, this has resulted in numerous car commercials and a recent commercial for Orange (UK mobile network provider) Text Messaging, music videos by e.g. Alice DeeJay and scenes in films such as Judge Dredd and the most recent James Bond film, Die Another Day.

In music we have famous opera singers Kristjan Johannson and Diddu and the world famous Björk. In between that you can find GusGus, Quarashi, Minus, Sigurros, Silt, Bang Gang, Ensimi, Leaves, Jet Black Joe, Emiliana Torrini and the young Jóhanna Guðrún, which I'm sure we will hear more from/of in the near future.
